SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. French recognized our middle school wrestling program. Student-athletes introduced themselves and told the Trustees how they did in their final wrestling matches. The girls wrestling team won the Minico meet and the boys team placed 11th out of 24 teams. 

Caldwell High School Report - Nick Mendez, a Student Representative from Caldwell High School, provided Trustees with an update about the school's academics and athletic events.

Canyon Springs High School Report - Jason Roblero-Lopez, Student Representative from Canyon Springs High School, provided Trustees with an update on spirit week, after-school tutoring, first graduate, Lions Club teachers grant, and the basketball tournament.

REGULAR AGENDA

• Computer Science Curriculum - Trustees heard from Dr. Ferro on the District's Computer Science Curriculum. The District currently has an initial planning team to help expand this curriculum to students in all grades throughout the District
• Student Achievement - Mike Jones, Principal at Washington Elementary, along with other staff members shared their reading strategies on student achievement. Trustees learned about the science of reading which includes; phonemic awareness, articulatory features, sound symbol mapping, and heart words. These methods have helped students at Washington Elementary improve their reading skills.
• Supplemental Levy - Trustees heard from Cheryl Sanderson, Chief Financial Officer, on Supplemental Levy funds. The Board will work on drafting and proposing ballot language for the renewal of the District’s Supplemental Levy.  
• Idaho System for Educational Excellence Update (ISEE) - Shannon Flower, ISEE Coordinator, provided Trustees with information on the District’s ISEE data. This data supports budgeting processes, and data submissions, and delivers information to educational stakeholders to create data-driven decisions.
• Future Agenda Items - Trustees did not discuss any future agenda items.

Trustees voted to Request to Rescind for the following policies:

• Policy 635 Student Safety Measures (Obsolete - No Child Left Behind requirements for this policy are no longer in effect. School choice is allowed under Policy 3010 Open Enrollment)
• Policy 713 Transportation of Students in Private Vehicle (Obsolete - parents/guardians are responsible for transportation if a student needs to go home due to illness or behavioral problems)
• Policy 714 Transportation of Non-Public School Students (Irrelevant - proposed Policy 8100 Student Transportation addresses who receives transportation services provided by the District)

• Policy 8120 Bus Routes, Stops, Non-Transportation Zones, and Safety
