Joshua Hackenberg was born in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, but spent most of his early life growing up outside of Washington, D.C. He moved back to Idaho when he met his wife, Amber, in 2009. It was also at that time that he began substitute teaching and fell in love with education. He went back to school to get his Master's in Teaching with an English as a Second Language Endorsement from George Fox University in 2012. During his time in graduate school, Mr. Hackenberg tutored middle school students at Jefferson Middle School in reading and math. He completed his student teaching at Washington Elementary and got his first official teaching job as a 5th grade teacher at Washington Elementary in 2012. He taught 4th and 5th grade students during this time, eventually becoming an instructional coach at Washington and Wilson Elementary Schools for the 2017-2018 school year. In 2017, Mr. Hackenberg completed his Ed.S. in Building Administration at Northwest Nazarene University. He is committed to building partnership with all parents, staff, and students for the benefit of Washington Elementary and the Caldwell community. In his spare time, Mr. Hackenberg enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, reading, mountain biking, fishing, drumming, and playing the bass guitar. He is excited to be working in a new capacity as Washington's principal next year and is confident that the positive relationships being developed with students, parents, and staff will lead to increased success at the school and in the community.
