One of the reasons why the Caldwell High wrestling program is so competitive is because the kids start wrestling at age 4.

The Caldwell wrestling staff runs two different junior wrestling programs — one is ages 4-18 and the other is ages 4-12. The "Little Cougs" is 4-12 and practicing right now on a regular basis.

The Little Cougs are organized and coached by Adam Freeman (the assistant varsity wrestling coach), Derik Drake (a former athlete), Dennis Anderson, and varsity coach Jeff Kloetzer. The high school athletes assist and get some great experience working with the little guys.

The purposes of the program is to introduce the sports of wrestling to the youth in Caldwell and to develop a feeder program to the middle school.

"It is our hope young athletes will develop self-esteem, self-discipline, and physical fitness through participation in the sport,'' Adam Freeman said. " The program will focus on basic wrestling skills, tumbling activities, and having fun."
